Mosses can absorb water like a sponge but some only a little at a time while others, like Sphagnums, can absorb up from 20-30 times their weight.

Roof tiles are delicate and in turn require a delicate approach when cleaning is required.
Our state of the art steam fed rotary head pole system allows us to safely and effectively clean roofs from a cherry picker, scaffold towers or in some cases even the ground!
Knowledge and set up of the machine is key in order to effectively clean a roof while mitigating risk of damage to the tiles. Tile type and age are both taken into consideration on set up.
In some cases where tiles are extremely aged and fragile, a method called softwashing is introduced.
Softwashing is a cleaning method using low pressure water and biocides.
Firstly the bulk of moss is removed using a telescopic pole with a scrape fitted to the end. Each type of tile has its own specifically designed scraper head to fit the tile type.
With the bulk of moss removed a biocide solution is pumped through a telescopic pole brush and gently scrubbed onto the surface of the tiles. This eliminates algae staining kills any of the remaining moss spores remaining in joints of the tiles.
