The earliest discovery of man-made bricks dates back to 7000 BC - We were not around to around to help clean it back then.
What colour is your brickwork stained?
Black:
Carbon staining is often found on brickwork on buildings that are in urban areas and close to busy roads where the carbon monoxide produced by the vehicles on the roads gets onto and into the brickwork
White:
Brick efflorescence is a powdery white residue that accumulates on bricks, mortar, and grout, usually during the first year after construction. Efflorescence is made up of water-soluble salts that are present either in the bricks themselves or in the mortar before construction, and which are washed out to the surface by water passing through the porous material.
Green:
Surrounding algae and organic growth can stain brickwork, leaving a mouldy green stain of varying degrees. In time this can reduce the structural integrity of the mortar surface causing it to crumble away.
Any questions?
Brickwork can become stained for many different reasons. Each type of brick and staining requires its own bespoke approach when it comes to safely cleaning.
